Byron's Gasser Madness!

~ Tim Pentecost's '57 Chevy ~

The building of this car was for the StraightLineModelers.com 'same kit' contest of a year or so ago.  All models had to be based on the new AMT kit molding of their '57 Chevy.  Toys-R-Us was blowing them out a $3.33 a piece; hence the hand lettered "333" on the windows.

Rather than super detailing I concentrated on fixing the molding flaws inherent in this kit.  Form the original issue AMT '57 Chevy, I used the chrome-reversed wheels with resin slicks from Replicas and Miniatures of MD.  Front wheels are Herb Deeks white metal 5-spokes and kit tires.  Engine/trans combo is from the kit with headers made from solder and the F.I. manifold from the AMT '55 Nomad kit.  The front axle is from the Nomad kit as well.  A pre-wired magneto from Sundance Motorsports, fuel lines, Detail Master Moon tank and a parts box radiator and hoses round out the detailing.

Though not built to the extent of an all out contest model, it does capture the essence of a bygone era when 2 or 3 guys like you and I could actually build a car like this and race competitively.
