"Big John" Mazmanian A/GS Austin

A very tuff decision has been made on my part and it is that at this time in my life I wish to put the Big John Mazmanian A/GS Austin body and parts up for sale. This is a Hot Rod magazine cover car (Sep 67), a full two-page color spread in Popular Hot Rodding (Jan 68), color photo in Hot Rod Pictorial #2 and numerous black and white photos in Drag News, Dragsport Illustrated and National Dragster. This car was campaigned from 1967 through most of 1968 by Mazmanian to be sold to K.S. Pittman who ran this body for another 1 1/2 years. K.S. removed the Austin body and replaced with an Opel GT body in early 1970, and this body floated amongst various back yards for the next 20 years in the California area.
The following items that are for sale, Gil Ayala chopped steel body, radiused steel rear fenders, fiberglass deck lid, modified fiberglass doors and one piece front end. Tom Hanna's aluminum inner rear wheel wells and part of the fire wall. 57-64 Pontiac rear end narrowed housing with Buick finned brake drums, spool and axles and wheelie bars from the famous flip top A/GS Austin of Herrera and Sons. 16x10 Halibrand rear wheels with NOS Goodyear Blue Streaks, front spindle mount 15x3 Halibrand wheels (off Herrera and Sons Austin). 392 Chrysler power plant that has a 1/4 stroke, two piece Keith Black timing cover, Donovan rockers, roller cam and lifters, 354 heads with the original scripted Donovan valve covers ("BIG JOHN") that still bears the candy apple red paint between the ribs. Complete blower and drive components, Vertex magneto, Hilborn four port injection and pump. Rebuilt 727 Short tail housing Torqueflite with period piece shifter, and the proper B&M transmission adapter.
This project is lacking the frame, front axle and components. Have uncovered original photo's of car under construction to help in the restoration of this famous car. We are dealing with an original piece of history and I have done my best over the last 15 years to find the correct period pieces that this car would have used. Please only serious interested parties need to inquire. Best time to call would be after 6pm Pacific time.
