~ Bob Ramella's 37 Willys ~
Original 1937 steel
body and doors, Willys Works fiberglass 41 front clip, hydraulically
operated, Ida fiberglass rear fenders, Willys works deck lid. The doors
are opened by remotely lowering the window and reaching inside to use the
handle. The deck lid also pops using the remote. I replaced the firewall
and floor when I was building this car, all very neatly done and finished
to show quality. The original chassis
has been boxed and back halved to accept the 31 x 18.5 x 15 inch Mickey
Pros. Steering box is a Mustang, vintage 1965. The original front axle has
been retained. Mid size Chevy disc brakes have been adapted to the
original spindles. A 9” Ford rear end with 11” drum brakes complete the
rolling chassis. I suicided the doors
for a different look. The interior is a mix of leather, vinyl and cloth.
The gages are VDO brand. The dash air conditioner is plumbed thru the toe
board, but I never put the compressor and accessories on. Engine wise: a fresh
355 Chevy ,line bored and balanced, Scat crank, TRW L2441F blower pistons,
Summit cam and lifters ,Harland Sharp roller rockers, Dart Iron Eagle
platinum heads (2.02 x 1.6) , 671 Blower with 2-600 Holley carbs. BDS
linkage, Chevy “X” rods, MSD 6AL, MSD distributor and on and on. The transmission is a
newly rebuilt (using NEW gears, sliders, syncros, etc.) Muncie wide ratio.
Clutch and pressure plate are new also, as is the Youngstown Driveshaft.
Rear is a 3.70 posi unit, also fresh. This car, when fresh,
was a killer, and the many show trophies and awards attest to that. The
car won its show class at Super Chevy at Norwalk, Ohio. At this show, Don
Garlits chose the car to be a feature car for Inside Dragracing which was
aired 3/22/97. A copy of the video is included. This car is a driver.
After about 11 years on the road, there is some minor road rash, but
nothing serious. Al1 the engine and transmission components have less than
300 miles on a complete rebuild. Likewise for the clutch and pressure
plate.
