Here's a

A few weeks ago, I saw some really nice old photos from a gentleman named
Forrest Bond who is on an email group to which I also belong. I
subsequently emailed him to ask if he had any Gasser photos he might be
willing to share with the visitors to GasserMadness.com
In response, I received this photo of the Kohler Bros' A/GS vs. Hugh
Tucker's AA/SR at the 67 Winternationals at Pomona and a note that said he
would be more than willing to share his photos with us. He's currently
going through around 2000 slides and negatives, scanning them all, so I
suspect that there will be more to come. Most are probably dragsters,
etc. but as you'll see here, he shot a lot of great Gasser photos too!
By the way, I emailed Hugh to ask who won. Here's his response: "That was
the final round for Super Eliminator at Winternationals 1967. He won. I
did a second gear start to try to keep from breaking out, that was a bad
decision."
Forrest has sent a number of photos he took at the 1965 NHRA Nationals at
Indianapolis while he was covering the meet as editor of National
Dragster. There are quite a few Gasser shots and a pretty good amount of
the early Funny Cars. Back in 1965, NHRA hadn't quite figured out what to
do with the Altered Wheelbase and blown, injected, nitro-burning
late-model coupes & sedans. The end result was that those cars, when they
showed up for an NHRA meet, were sort of "thrown in" to whatever existing
NHRA they fit. That's why you'll see photos of Steve Bovan's Nova running
as a B/FD or Phil Bonner and Hayden Proffitt racing each other in the B/A
(B/Altered) class.
You may also notice that Forrest has placed a copyright notice on each of
his photo, but made it as small as legally allowed so they won't interfere
with your enjoyment of the photos.
If you don't respect Forrest's copyright, then we won't get more of his
photos, like the Anglia Gasserfest at Half Moon Bay, California in 1965!
When I asked Forrest if he'd like me to put these up in a manner that
would make them more difficult to copy or save, the answer was an emphatic
"No!" He wishes to share the photos with people like GasserMadness folks
who will appreciate them, subject to the few restrictions above.
Remember, just because they appear on the Internet does NOT (contrary to a
common misconception) place them in the Public Domain.
Other than that, Forrest wants you to enjoy the photos he took over 40
years ago, and so do I.
Thanks,
Byron
