~ Gasser Madness Survey ~
~ Results ~
First of
all, I'd like to thank the folks who took the time to take the
GasserMadness.com Survey. I really appreciate the feedback!
It's nice to know that people enjoy the site. Having said that, I
have to say also, that I was a bit disappointed with the number of people
who didn't bother. Given the fact that about 2000 people a day visit
this site, having only about 90 people take the time to fill out a 2-3
minute survey that was available for a little over 3 weeks...well, you get
my drift. If you have
any further comments or questions, please email me at
byron@gassermadness.com. At any rate,
here's what people had to say (I removed all the names and contact info):
About all I
can say here is that if you do have trouble finding what you're looking
for, don't be embarrassed, shoot me an email and I'll try to help.
Question 2:
Do you have a better idea for navigating around the
GasserMadness.com website?
Most responses told me that it was easy or that they liked the way it
was done now. Lots of nice compliments, too. Thank you.
For those who did make suggestions, see below:
How about some racer links?
There are a number of racer
links on the links page. If there's more you would like added, send
me the url (links) and I'll add them.
It might be cool to have just a people page so that we can all see our
heroes.
That's a good idea, I'll
work on it. If you have pix of racers from "back in the day", send
them to me at the link at the bottom of the page.
Neat idea, but kind of
tough to do! Anyone care to work on that for me? Volunteers
gratefully accepted!
finding the tri five photos from the home page...
Well, that's why there's a
"Table of Contents Page. I just don't have the space to put all of
the links on the home page.
Maybe start a blog section? Maybe add some more visitor rides a little
more frequently.
What kind of Blog did you
have in mind? As far as the "Visitor's Rides" Section, I'm guilty as
charged. The issue is simply the time to do it! Any volunteers
out there who'd like to help?
Hmmm. Maybe sub-directory into categories: By decade -
50's-60's-70's-80's, or maybe by makes???
Another good idea, but same
issue as dividing by State...any volunteers? LOL
Index list needs to be larger type for us old farts.
As an old fart myself, I
can sympathize. It's simply a matter of the available space to do
it. Trying to format things to fit on a page can be a real challenge
at times!
the section to the left does not go with the shortcut on the desktop. I
have to have two shortcuts. no big deal maybe it is something I am doing
wrong.
Email me. I think I
know what the problem is.
Obviously,
whether they really like the colors or not, most folks are okay with them
Question 4
What colors (if any) would you like to see on
GasserMadness.com?
Most who answered seems to like it the way it is, but a few wanted to
make other suggestions.
I prefer warm color backgrounds. Definitely NO BLACK BACKGROUNDS unless
the body copy font size is large enough to "read" easily. (Tired, old
eyeballs!)
I agree. My first website
(about 11 or 12 years ago) was a black background with bright yellow type.
I thought it looked cool...until a friend BEGGED me to change it!
LOL
if it's a
picture the correct colors would be great
Well, I
was asking more about backgrounds, etc., but I wanted to address this
anyway. Photo colors can be difficult! Old photos may have
faded over the years (some even turn red). I really do what I can to
try to restore correct colors, but even with Photoshop, it's not a walk in
the park! Different film, filters, light conditions, etc. all
contribute to making the same car look different in various photos.
It's very difficult to determine exactly what the "right" color should be!
The same goes for photos of current cars. Hey...I do my best.
I like tradition
Does that mean you like the
colors...or not?
get rid of the variegated color and use one in contrast to the text
color
Given how difficult it can
be to make the text look okay, that's probably exactly what I'll do the
next time I change "the look" of the site. I have to be honest,
though, that won't be real soon!
Content matters colors don't...
I do agree with you, but I
do like to make the site look good too.
I enjoy sticking to the black and white shots, brings ya right back to
the day.
Yeah...I kinda like 'em
too!
PURPLE DEEP
I like purple, but
NO!
light gray and bright red
See previous answer!
Question 6
What changes would you like to see on GasserMadness.com?
This was a pretty open-ended question and I got some good suggestions.
While most answers were on the order of "Don't change anything" and "No,
you're doing a great job", I won't be able to (nor would I want to)
implement all of the suggestions, but keep your eyes open to see some of
them in the upcoming months. Thanks to everyone who contributed!
As above
[a people page] but I
am never goin' to look a gift horse in the mouth !!!!!!
As I said before, I like
this idea a lot!
Well...I'm open to
alternatives! What do you think should replace it?
A street gasser section
While some are race cars, I
think the "Visitors' Rides" is sort of like that. Disagree?
What do you have in mind?
MORE GASSERS!!!
I'm workin' on it!
LOL
How's about a "Where are they now?" kind of thing??
I like it! Any
volunteers to do some research and write-ups?
I wish there was a way of having a section on strictly identifying the
old gassers from the past and giving updates on them as they are today.
Works with the previous
suggestion.
I would like to see you add a GARAGE section so we could send in photos
of our home garage not big shops, so others may view what can be done in a
two car or even a one car. I always like looking at what guys have hanging
from the walls old parts ,signs, license plates, etc. (Just an idea)
That's kind of a cool idea.
All I need now is another few hours added to the day so I can keep up with
everything! <grin>
more how to articles
I like the idea. Feel
free to contribute any you'd like. Of course, these days, I'd have
to have a 3 page legal disclaimer to protect myself from lawsuits in the
event that some dumbass managed to kill himself while driving 160mph on a
back road at night with no lights after reading a how to article about
fiberglass front ends on my site. On second thought...maybe you
ought to hold off on that contribution. I can't afford the full-time
attorney.
updates on lost and found
Once again, guilty as
charged. I'll try to do better.
Story a month on different cars. Last week I got to touch and see the
original Swindler II (Stones Woods & Cook) It brought back a ton of
memories. I was lucky enough to see the glory days, not the drag business
world we have today.
Good idea. I tried
doing that several years ago, but usually didn't have the time. I'll
see what I can do about restarting it, time permitting. As far as
the Swindler II goes, Joe Troillo has done a terrific job restoring it.
I've only seen photos and haven't yet had to opportunity to see it myself.
The 60's (my idea of the glory days) were great. I definitely agree
about the drag business world of today...makes me long for "the daze"!
first time here
Thanks for stopping by.
I hope you enjoyed it and come back again!
More pictures please
Always happy to add
pictures, but it's not like I have an unlimited supply. I'm
dependant on you and other people to send them to me to publish.
a little more history on drivers and cars. More on the modified sports
(they really are gassers!).
Again...this ties in with
some of the other suggestions made previously. It's a great idea,
and I'll see what I can come up with.
As far as the Modified
Sports cars, I liked 'em too, but there weren't as many of them as the
gassers. If you have pix and info on them, send 'em to me.
I'll be happy to add them to the site!
Small gripe, but I liked the old way of the event pictures opening, it
seemed swifter?
Sorry, but there are
several reasons I had to change the picture format.
I would like to be sent updates by email on the newly uploaded pictures
that Gasser Madness posts.
Another good idea.
I'll look into that and have an announcement soon.
MORE FREQUENTLY UPDATED INFORMATION
I'll try.
Do have to be a member to ask you a question
No...but you're probably
one of the several hundred people who've emailed me to ask a question and
never received a response. I sincerely apologize! I get
200-500 emails a day (counting 100 or so *&$^% spam emails!). I do read
every one of them (except the spam) and with those that ask for a
response, if I don't have time to do the research at the moment, I "mark
as unread" with the intention of going back later to answer them.
Only problem is, that I end up forgetting them and by the time I remember,
I'm a bit overwhelmed. At this moment, I have somewhere north of
3000 emails waiting for some sort of an answer from me. My suspicion
is that they won't all get answered! If I don't respond in a
reasonable amount of time, please resend your email, remind me what an ass
I am for not answering, and ask me to please respond this time!
some of the pages have not been updated for a while.
Yeah...I know...I'm working
on it!
The cars are terrific, and the major reason fans and enthusiasts visit.
However, people are behind all that sheetmetal and fiberglass. Maybe have
a little more about the people that make the cars happen, or those who are
now gone and made an impact.
Once again...I really like
this idea! Of course, 99.9% of the photos sent to me are of the
cars. Please feel free to send photos of and information about
people, too!
How about a feature on a member a month
I like it, but it takes the
members to send me the information.
Maybe once a month do a profile on old time racers.
Hey...where have I heard
that before? It's become obvious that folks would like to know more
about the people involved. So would I, so I'll definitely be working
on it!
The only thing would be updates on readers/members cars.
Thirty lashes with a wet
noodle for me! I'm trying!
A quick indicator of when last updated. I know you have what's new but?
Good idea...that I can do,
in fact, I just did!
Question 7
Here, I'd like to know what sections of
GasserMadness.com
you find interesting, useful, or just enjoy...or not.
Question 8
Do you have any other comments or suggestions you'd like to make?
Thanks to all for the great comments!
KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON !!!
A GREAT SITE! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
Thank you for the site
MORE GASSERS!!!!
What's not to like? This is a site devoted to what I enjoy: Gassers,
Gassers, and more Gassers!!
I'm building a 1948 mercury coupe, to a 1961 era. car. tech question
area with historical info to build stuff right, love the site !
Sounds like it'll be pretty
cool! Be sure to send photos.
You have some of the most talented contributing photographers in the
business. Bob Wenzelburger and others keep your site fresh and very
enjoyable.
There are some good ones,
aren't there!
Thanks for all your efforts. I know this takes a lot of time
Just want to say thanks for a fantastic site.
Just keep up the good work Byron and thank you for everything.
Stay straight, your on a good pass
Keep up the Great Work!!!
truly enjoy your site and appreciate and all the work. By the way, my
grandson is now two years cancer free and is a "gasser nut". His favorite
car is the 33 Willys. Guess it's time to think about building one and keep
the Vette for myself.
I love this site!!!! Thanks
That is a wonderful idea,
but I'd need some help to implement it.
Thanks and keep up the effort...
As mentioned above, this is one of the best sites I regularly visit.
The others being eBay and Craigslist. Great site. Thanks!
Keep up the great work
Cant get enough of GasserMadness!
I think your site is top notch for people who are interested in drag
racing in the 50's,60's,and 70's.
Thanks for doing all of this work. There must be a ton of fans such as
myself who do really appreciate your site.
Great site!! Keep up the good work!! I usually check it a couple of
times a week and will often find a picture that I hadn't seen before.
Would like to see some more info/pics on the Moody& Jones C/GS 37 Coupe
and the Gene Moody "Moody's Garage" D/G 55. Great history with those two
cars at the US Nationals.
Good feature idea.
I'll see what I can come up with.
thanks for the time and love you put into gm....
Byron, yer doin a great job, thanks for all you do
I think that you are doing a great job and I enjoy Gasser Madness as it
is.
This is a good site, filled with plenty of photos, information and
variety. It definitely "ain't broke", so don't fix it. Maybe "tune a
little", try a few new things here and there. Bump up the spark a degree,
lean it a jet size... that kind of "tuning".
If Its not broke don't fix it- no- leave it alone, it's
GREAT NOW
no changes dude
Byron, GasserMadness is the top of my Favorites list
[what a coincidence, mine too!
LOL] and it will be for a long time to come. Love every thing on
it, Thanks a lot for all your hard work,
I just love it that people like yourself take on these projects so we
can benefit from the history being kept alive. Imagine how the nostalgia
movement would be if the internet had not happened.
Thanks for such a great site best gasser site on the internet
I think that you could sell a lot of t- shirts if you had a cool
design. Not like the last one. I've still got the one with the 33 Willys
coupe racing the Anglia. It's getting ragged but it was cool...
I'm grateful to have the site!
update members rides.. and info
Just the e-mail portion alone is a great way to start my day. I've made
friends here, great resources, info, pictures, event coverage that I'm
sometimes unable to attend, great folks Byron, thanks to you. I really
don't see how it can be improved. Keep up the good work, I'm sure
everybody appreciates it. Folks even pray for each other so it actually
has become somewhat of a Gasser family of sorts. At least that's the way I
feel about it.
Cool idea, but really tough
to implement!
See previous response. The last 2 questions I asked
were if anyone had web building skills and, if so, what's your name and
email address if you'd be willing to help me with GasserMadness.com.
Only 3 said they had those skills and, unfortunately, none of them
volunteered to help. Oh well. If you have any further
comments or questions, please email me at
byron@gassermadness.com.

Keep in mind, that it's really huge...over 1000
pages, around 30-40 thousand photos or so, and about 3 gigabytes!
By State INFO on Gassers

ELIMINATE THE NAVAGATION BAR ON THE LEFT. TAKES UP TOO MUCH SPACE.
If there's a section you don't like or just don't bother with, just DO NOT
check that box.
This is one of my favorite sites.
I know you have a "Gone But Not Forgotten" section, I would like to see a
remembrance section for all the guys that lost their lives back in the
60's and early 70's that ran these great cars. Many people know of the top
fuel dragster, and funnycar guys that met with tragedy, but a lot of
people don't know of the Gasser guys who did.
Again, you're doing a great job. I have no complaints.
I think it's fantastic Byron....
Maybe some archives of the races, winners and stats...if they could be
linked to a photo that would be neat.
Maybe group the old photos by event rather than photog, IE: the 1967 US
Nats, etc.
